Before flying a dog to Australia from the UK, you will need to:
1. Get your dog microchipped to ISO standard 11784/11785
2. Apply for an import permit through the Australian Department of Agriculture (DAFF)
3. Ensure your dog is vaccinated against rabies after microchipping and when at least 90 days old
4. Book a Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT) at least 180 days before travel
5. Arrange pre-export parasite treatments within the timeframe specified on your import permit in addition to the required blood tests
6. Have an Official Veterinarian issue an export health certificate close to departure
7. Book a quarantine place at the Mickleham facility in Victoria
The sequencing for the above requirements is strict, with fixed deadlines, but our experienced team at Transfur Animals can manage the entire process on your behalf, from the first permit application through to your dog safely landing in Australia.
Please note: All dogs entering Australia must fly into Melbourne and go directly into quarantine on arrival. The minimum quarantine period is 10 days, though this can extend to 30 days depending on your dog’s status.
