Rules and regulations for taking your pet to Portugal
In order to reduce your stress when moving, it’s important that you’re aware of a few rules and regulations regarding pet transport.
Before arranging your pet’s transportation to Portugal, it’s important to ensure that you have proof of vaccination from at least 30 days (but not more than a year) from your pet’s departure. Animals without a rabies vaccine are prohibited from entering Portugal, so this should be at the top of your list of things to do. It’s important to note that pets that are under 3 months old cannot receive a rabies vaccine.
A microchip will be necessary for your pet to be accepted into Portugal. All cats and dogs will require an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit microchip. If they do not have one that is ISO compliant, you can contact Border Inspection and inquire whether they have scanners that can read your pet’s microchip.
